Creative Consultant

Prof. Dr. Heike Sperling is an expert on communication. Throughout her career, she received numerous awards for outstanding work in Germany and abroad. Today, she works as a creative consultant.

Heike Sperling, born 1965, studied with Bazon Brock, Anna Oppermann and Ursula Wevers. She graduated in Communication Design from the University of Wuppertal, Germany in 1990.
Sperling wrote her dissertation of Aesthetics – thesis supervisor was Bazon Brock – and received her PhD in 1999.

Heike Sperling started her career at RTL Televsion, a German private broadcasting company. The development and launch of the on-air corporate design of the German national TV channel VOX in 1993 remains one of her stand-out projects.

She has worked as a freelance producer, director, and creative director in Germany and the US, and created music videos that focused on experimental and electronic music. She has designed collages for brand eins, a leading German business magazine, and developed the on-air corporate design for the launching campaign of the new music TV-broadcaster VIVA PLUS in collaboration with Double Standard's Chris Rehberger. Dr. Sperling also served two years as the Head of Design for the German public TV-broadcaster WDR where she was responsible for the on-air-, set-, sound- and lighting design.

Co-chairing with Prof. Manfred Becker the post-graduate-program Motion Design at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Germany's leading film school, since 1998, she is also teaching at NABA Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano, Italy, the Academy of Art and Design in Basel, Switzerland, the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg, Austria and the University of the Arts (HFK) Bremen.
In 2004, Dr. Sperling was appointed by Düsseldorf's Robert Schumann School of Music and Media as professor for Digital Visual Media/ Visual Music at their Institute For Music And Media (IMM).

In 2005 Prof. Dr. Heike Sperling initiated the lecture series BASECAMP at the IMM. Ever since, Professor Sperling curates the monthly event.
She also tours her own lectures on various European platforms, universities and conferences.

During a sabbatical in 2009 Heike Sperling initiated the Visual Music Archive. She is now editor-in-chief of this non-profit online archive which received a lot of attention and has been praised throughout the community.
