WDR Broadcasting

On-air, set, lighting, and sound design
2002-2004

Served two years as creative director for Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR, West German Broadcasting Cologne), a German public-broadcasting institution based in the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia with its main office in Cologne. WDR is the largest broadcasting company in continental Europe.

I initiated and led their on-air redesign in close collaboration with British design legend Peter Saville. The video shows a short compilation of a few of the results.

Corporate video for IBM

Marketing Heroes
2002

The Frankfurt branch of Ogilvy & Mather hired me to design and produce a corporate film for IBM's marketing department. We sampled from dozens of movies and music videos, and tried to compose the final video in a way that none of it would be noticeable.

VIVA PLUS

On-air design for the launch of a new national music TV channel
2001-2002

Was hired as creative director for concept and production of the on-air, sound, and set design for the launch of the new national music TV station VIVA Plus in collaboration with Double Standards, Berlin. Chris Rehberger and I worked for three months non-stop at Tsunami post production. Their attic offices in Bismarckstraße were in the former studio of noted German artist Gerhard Richter.

The opening credits for the Berlin shows were designed by British design legend Peter Saville, to whom I got introduced through Chris Rehberger.

Music by Marcus Schmickler, FX Randomiz, Thomas Brinkmann, Florian Hecker, Justus Köhncke among others.

The video shows a short compilation of the on-air design packages.

Commercial for Gauloises Blondes

Starring a Cigarette Lighter

Once again KolleRebbe hired me to produce a commercial for Gauloises Blondes. The client had a huge cigarette lighter, and they wanted to see it in the film.

Video clip for Sensorama "Flicker"

DOP Bettina Herzner and I developed the idea of two very different worlds influencing each other. We shot on 16 mm at the banks of the river Rhine, and deep underground in an ancient basement in Cologne.

Sensorama's remix track of a Pluramon song was released on Bit Sand Riders, Mille Plateaux, Frankfurt.

Motion Design for "Fast Forward"

Designer Andrea Duyster and I created a new on-air opener for a legendary TV show by Charlotte Roche for VIVA ZWEI, a German music TV channel. We visited Charlotte Roche at home and shot hundreds of photos, and edited them frame by frame. See if you'll find the hidden mail address.

Video clip for Pluramon "Formant"

For the shooting of this video clip we went to the phantasmagorical house one of an old friend of mine, Christian Boros in Wuppertal. His wonderful art collection plays more than a supporting role. Shot on small digital video camera.

Music by Pluramon. The track was release on Render Bandits.

Corporate video for Kabel New Media

Motion Design and remixing the mainstream
1999

Was responsible for the concept and look of this one-minute corporate video for Kabel New Media. Produced it for the prestigious advertising agency KolleRebbe in Hamburg. The music was sampled and remixed from the outstanding animation movie Ghost in the shell.
